Can You Combine Keto with Fasting?
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past several years you’ve likely heard of Keto but might be wondering if you can combine Keto with Fasting. How would you implement such a plan? What results might you expect?
Let’s start with Keto. The benefits of adopting Keto are well known. The reduction of blood sugar and insulin results in reduced hunger. Other benefits include lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol, improved immunity, and increased growth hormone, aka anti-aging benefits. Other benefits include the prevention of diseases such as cancer, PCOS, Epilepsy, acne, and Parkinson’s as well as increased energy and brain function.
If you haven’t yet implemented Keto you would start by eliminating all snacks and eating 3 keto-friendly meals per day. For weight loss, it’s important to keep net carbs between 20-50 grams per day. In the KetoMAD Diet book I outline how to do this one meal at a time. This gradual approach turns you into a fat-burning machine without triggering Keto flu or other adverse effects. Over three weeks, starting with breakfast, then lunch, and finally dinner you will transform your body, your health, and your life.
Why Add Fasting?
You’ve implemented Keto. You’re feeling better and have lost some water weight. But you may wish to further reduce hunger and accelerate your weight loss. Let’s face it we all want to get into our skinny jeans ASAP! When you combine Keto with Fasting you achieve maximum health benefits, maximum weight loss, and maximum confidence. Boom.
You can use alternate day fasting, 5:2, 16:8, and my favorite, OMAD (one meal a day). Fasting is not one size fits all. Factors to take into consideration include the rate of your metabolism, activity level, body fat, and desired goals. You may lose weight quickly by simply skipping one meal while others need a longer period of fasting. This will take some trial and error.
Menopause and Fasting
One class of dieters, which I fall into, is post-menopausal women who have dieted most of their lives. Post-menopausal weight loss is the most difficult, stubborn, and frustrating experience for most women. However, do not lose hope. It can be done and it can be done fabulously. You simply need to know the secret 1-2 punch of Keto and OMAD combined.
I have a special place in my heart for women experiencing menopause. I’ve been there. Past weight loss strategies no longer work. It is simply not fair! If you can tackle this hurdle successfully you can increase the quality of the second half of your life dramatically. I would love to help you do this!

After Successfully Combining Keto with Fasting, then what?
You’ve lost the weight. You look amazing! Now, what about maintenance? Will I ever eat normally again? The short answer is yes. The long answer is your “normal” may change. Once the excess fat is burned off you will start increasing your meals. Most people can transition back to 3 meals per day if they keep their net carbs low. Not hungry in the morning, great, skipping breakfast can be a lifelong habit. Once your body weight stabilizes you can get away with some cheat meals or cheat days. You will eliminate snacks for good. Snacks simply fuel extra insulin (hunger), you don’t need them.
